A Study on Patient Perspectives and Adherence in Weight Loss Medication Treatments
Thesis project description
Our project endeavors to explore the realm of patient-centric innovation in psychiatric healthcare, with a specific focus on understanding patient perspectives and adherence concerning weight loss medication treatments. By gaining insights into the factors that impact patient compliance and the challenges they face, we aim to provide valuable contributions to pharmaceutical companies and the broader healthcare sector. This project will unearth the dynamics of the product developer mindset within psychiatric healthcare, enabling the development of more patient-centric innovations and ultimately enhancing healthcare outcomes and patient experiences.
The healthcare industry is constantly evolving, with a growing emphasis on patient-centric approaches. As the paradigm shifts toward valuing patient experiences and active involvement in treatment decisions, it is essential to understand the intricate relationship between patients and healthcare innovations. Our project seeks to bridge this understanding gap by examining psychiatric healthcare's unique dynamics and patient adherence in the context of weight loss medication.
To investigate patients' perceptions regarding weight loss medication treatments in psychiatric healthcare.
To analyze and identify the multifaceted factors that influence patient adherence to these treatments.
To uncover and comprehend the challenges patients confront while undergoing weight loss medication regimens.
To achieve our objectives, we will adopt a multifaceted approach:
Patient Interviews and Surveys: We will conduct in-depth interviews with patients who have undergone weight loss medication treatments in psychiatric healthcare. Simultaneously, structured surveys will be administered to collect quantitative data.
Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals: Engaging with psychiatric healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical experts will provide valuable insights into the product development processes and their interactions with patient perspectives.
Data Analysis: A robust data analysis process will be undertaken to identify common themes, patterns, and correlations within the gathered information.
Recommendations: Based on our findings, we will develop practical recommendations for enhancing patient-centric innovations within psychiatric healthcare.
This project's significance lies in its potential to bridge the gap between pharmaceutical product development and the patient experience. The insights gained from our research will provide invaluable guidance for pharmaceutical companies looking to adapt their strategies to be more patient-centric. Moreover, our findings will contribute to improved patient adherence, which is crucial for the success of weight loss medication treatments, ultimately resulting in enhanced healthcare outcomes and better patient experiences.
The project will progress through several key phases:
Project Initiation: 01/02/2024
Data Collection: Conducting interviews, surveys, and professional consultations.
Data Analysis: Careful examination of collected data for patterns and insights.
Recommendations and Reporting: Preparing a comprehensive report with practical recommendations.
Conclusion and Presentation: Summarize the project's outcomes and share insights with stakeholders.
Hand-In of the project: 20/05/2024

Managerial value of the research
The insights gained from our research hold significant value for pharmaceutical companies and the healthcare sector as a whole. By understanding the product developer mindset and patient perspectives in weight loss medication treatments within psychiatric healthcare, our project contributes to the following areas:Enhanced Patient-Centric Innovation: The pharmaceutical industry benefits by gaining a deeper understanding of patient needs, perceptions, and experiences. This knowledge empowers companies to develop medications and treatments that are more in tune with the patients' demands, ultimately leading to more patient-centric innovations.Improved Medication Adherence: Medication adherence is a critical factor in the success of any treatment. Our research helps pharmaceutical companies identify the challenges patients face in adhering to weight loss medications. Armed with this knowledge, these companies can create strategies and medications that promote higher adherence rates, improving healthcare outcomes.Competitive Advantage: Companies that integrate patient-centric insights into their product development processes gain a competitive edge. This approach not only resonates with patients but can also lead to better market positioning and differentiation from competitors. In conclusion, our project unlocks the potential for pharmaceutical companies to enhance their approach to product development, resulting in more patient-centered innovations, improved medication adherence, and, most importantly, better healthcare experiences for patients. This transformational shift in the healthcare industry benefits companies by boosting their competitive advantage and the healthcare sector as a whole by fostering a culture of patient-centric care.
Research topic motivation
Our interest in psychiatric healthcare commenced during our academic pursuits. As we delved into the intricacies of this field, particularly within the context of patient-centric innovation, our fascination grew. An enlightening experience during our second semester, where we collaborated with Sct. Hans Hospital to explore the impact of the therapeutic landscape, ignited a profound interest in us. This academic curiosity serves as a strong motivating force, propelling us to explore this subject matter more deeply and make a meaningful contribution.Beyond our academic intrigue, personal connections have further fueled our motivation. A significant influence is my wife, who serves as an "Overlæge" at the Psykiatrisk Center Sct. Hans in Roskilde, specializing in the M20 dual diagnosis department. Through her work, we have gained invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities inherent to this specialized domain, rendering it a relatable and compelling field of study. Moreover, we recognize the paramount significance of patient-centered innovation within psychiatric healthcare. This topic holds immense potential to enhance the lives of individuals grappling with mental health issues and related conditions. The prospect of contributing to progress in this area and effecting a positive change in the lives of patients and their families is a deeply motivating factor for us.The ever-evolving nature of the healthcare industry, particularly in the realm of psychiatric healthcare, fills us with excitement. In my free time, I enjoy reading and running, when I'm reading, I completely relax and find myself in another world. Reading books helps me to think outside the box and use my imagination. Instead, while running I like being in contact with nature, which generates inside me many positive emotions, such as calmness, and facilitates my concentration.
Passion and motivation
One area I'm passionate about is self-development and self-improvement in my personal life. I always try to challenge myself and learn new things. I like to help others, so I became a blood donor. Also, I have gained great communication skills, listening skills, and problem-solving skills which help me in my day-to-day work but also in my personal life in terms of trust, and communication.
