In the era of digital transformation, the Internet of Things (IoT) stands as a cornerstone of innovation and efficiency. Our research project, titled "Optimizing IoT Efficiency: Enhancing Performance While Ensuring Security," aims to advance the standards of operational efficiency and security in IoT systems.
Our thesis project will conduct an in-depth evaluation of your current IoT system architecture, focusing on optimizing energy usage while maintaining effective security. By dissecting the interaction between various layers of your system, we aim to identify potential optimization gaps and provide solutions to mitigate them. The ultimate goal is to find the optimal combination of operating systems, protocol stacks, and cryptographic algorithms that optimise energy efficiency while upholding robust performance and security, tailored to your company’s unique requirements.
In addition, the thesis will investigate state-of-the-art techniques for secure IoT communication. This will include assessing different configurations and protocols in terms of energy consumption, memory requirements, and security effectiveness, aiming to identify the best-fit solution for your company's unique use case.

Research topic motivation
The past decade has witnessed an unprecedented expansion in the IoT sector, a field marked by rapid evolution and innovation, which holds significant relevance in today's world. However, a critical concern is that during this rapid development, security has often been overlooked. Many IoT devices are plagued by inadequate configurations, vulnerable protocols, and inadequately tested software, leading to an expanded potential attack surface for organizations utilizing IoT in their operations. Securing IoT systems is an ongoing research topic, and I am eager to contribute of this ongoing effort, to ensure that the growth of IoT will not come at the expense of security, and the devices we will use in the future are not only technologically advanced, but also reliable and trustworthy.

Through my academic work and various projects related to IoT, I have developed a strong skill set that I believe will drive this research to meaningful and valuable conclusions. I have successfully completed several courses related to networking, communication protocols, embedded systems, and cryptography, which will be of great use in elaborating this project.
