My research focuses on examining the extent of overregulation in the banking industry and investigating whether such extensive regulations can effectively safeguard investors and society at large from significant crashes during financial crises, particularly when these crises originate in the US and subsequently impact the global economy. My main interest lies in examining (i) whether the regulation is overly extensive and (ii) whether such comprehensive regulation can protect against major crashes during financial crises. In other words, in an upcoming financial crisis, does the existing regulation shield EU countries from significant crashes, akin to those witnessed in the US.
I believe that this thesis can bring great insight for any company in the financial markets to get a greater outlook on the measures that are leading to crises' and how they can use this to their further advantage in creating inside policies. The thesis will provide a view of which measures and legislations are effective for protecting against the implications of a global crisis and which are less beneficial.
