Human-wildlife conflicts have been of particular interest to environmental organizations given their frequency and intensity around the world. From tigers in Nepal to polar bears in Greenland, local communities have negatively influenced the density and abundance of important wildlife species through poaching and habitat destruction. This research aims to smooth human-wildlife conflict through the Unified Framework for Negotiation (UNF). Identifying and analyzing aspects that currently influence the conflict such as culture, institutions involved, incentives and actors' orientations and experiences, allows us to formulate feasible solutions with stakeholders that respond to their needs and interests, ensuring community involvement and prioritizing the conservation of wildlife and its ecosystem.
The intention of this project is to provide research-based alternatives for wildlife conservation by involving stakeholders through conflict analysis and negotiation design. It is, in fact, a new approach to addressing human-wildlife conflicts through collaborative management, providing long-term benefits such as reduced environmental conflicts, improved wildlife conservation outcomes, and fostering community relations.
Growing up in a capital city made me constantly see how disconnected we humans were from nature. I began to realize how this lack of interaction could affect our perception of nature, as well as the impact that a poor knowledge of resources and ecosystems has on their proper management and use. In addition, I lived surrounded by a human-andean bear conflict in the surroundings of a National Park, also witnessing the efforts of environmental companies to conserve this species without great success by not taking into account and involving the community. My passion for human-nature interaction and community-based management has been a driving force throughout my graduate academic career. I have consistently pursued courses that have deepened my understanding of the implications of conservation for society and sustainable practices, such as Community Forestry, Forest Governance, Social Management and Participation, Environmental Education, Natural Resource Management, and Conflict Analysis and Negotiation Design.
Besides being passionate about the subject and having an academic background in the field, I have very clear that I want to be part of a work team that aims at the sustainability and harmonization of nature, including of course human beings as part of this great living system. My experience and commitment to research encourage me to continue pursuing my goal of finding viable and practical solutions to current environmental problems. I have had the opportunity to be part of a research group and I was the leader of a seedbed group where I actively participated with research assistance doing data collection, statistical analysis and writing academic reports in Spanish. In addition, I find it very important to socialize and share knowledge, either in local communities through environmental education or at scientific events, so I have presented previous research projects at several national and international conferences.
I would describe myself as a determined and optimistic individual who always strives to give my best effort and embraces opportunities for learning and growth. My enthusiasm for life is reflected in my various interests and hobbies. In my free time, I enjoy pursuing a range of activities that keep me engaged and inspired. I have a passion for climbing and yoga, which not only challenge me physically but also provide a sense of tranquility and mindfulness. Additionally, I find relaxation and entertainment in watching movies, and I'm constantly working on expanding my linguistic skills by learning French. Dancing is another one of my interests, allowing me to express myself creatively and connect with others through movement. My love for travel has taken me to four different countries, fostering adaptability skills and a sense of independence that enriches my perspective on the world. Overall, I'm an open-minded individual with a zest for life, always eager to explore new interests and experiences while embracing the challenges and opportunities they bring.
I am passionately dedicated to collaborative natural resource management, particularly through conflict analysis and community forestry. This passion stems from my belief that responsible and sustainable management of our natural resources is essential for both environmental preservation and the well-being of communities that depend on them. I'm driven by the desire to find innovative solutions that bridge the gap between environmental conservation and community needs, ultimately leading to more harmonious and sustainable coexistence. My motivation comes from witnessing the positive impact that effective environmental education and management can have on communities and ecosystems. When I see communities thriving through sustainable resource management practices and conflicts being resolved through informed dialogue, it reaffirms my commitment to this field. I am the right fit for a company because my extensive experience in academic support and research, combined with my knowledge of GIS and RStudio, equips me with a diverse skill set that can contribute significantly to the company's goals. My dedication to collaborative natural resource management is aligned with objectives related to promoting sustainability. In addition, my interest in conflict analysis and community forestry allows me to address complex challenges and foster positive relationships with stakeholders. I believe that my passion, skills and dedication make me a valuable asset to any organization wishing to make a significant impact in the field of environmental education and management.
